Research

With access to all levels of the rainforest, from the forest floor to the tops of emergent trees, ACTS Field Station is an ideal site for conducting tropical field research. Located in one of the most biologically diverse forests in the world the ACTS Field Station and Canopy Walkway serve as an open laboratory for countless ongoing tropical research programs and sustainable development projects.

The ACTS Field Station is located in the private 4,136-acre Napo-Sucusari Biological Reserve in primary tropical lowland rainforest. The reserve is adjacent to the 1-million acre Maijuna-Kichwa Regional Conservation Area, for a total protected land area greater than Yosemite National Park. The immense diversity of wildlife within the Napo-Sucusari Biological Reserve is a testament to this large-scale continuity of protected land: primates, rare taxa, and new species to Western science are all found at ACTS.

The ACTS Field Station offers short- and long-term accommodations for researchers, the open-air Al Gentry Research Laboratory, electricity, and running water. Multilingual staff naturalists are on-site and available to assist with research needs and logistics. Transportation from Iquitos (the nearest urban center) is facilitated by ACTS.

Peruvian Permitting Process - SERFOR

For those requiring official research permits from Peru’s Servicio Nacional Forestal y de Fauna Silvestre (SERFOR), general information can be found on the SERFOR website. A step-by-step guide is also available. For most new studies by non-Peruvian researchers, forms must be delivered in person to the SERFOR office in Lima. Information on importing and exporting specimens can be found on the VUCE website.
